Bethesda held an ESO 2022 Global Reveal stream today and the Tales of Tribute system was one of many announcements for the next year of content. Every year there is a brand new system or feature added to The Elder Scrolls Online, and for 2022, players can expect a trading card game. While the feature won’t be added until the High Isle chapter officially drops in June, there are some details about the new trading card game from the reveal stream.
Tales of Tribute brings a trading card game to ESO
Tales of Tribute will be a collectible card game that is played entirely within ESO. There will not be a separate game of client that players need to use in order to collect cards or play against opponents. Rather, the system can be used nearly anywhere within The Elder Scrolls Online, whether that be in an average tavern or against another opponent on a secluded mountain. The idea is to add another layer of collection and competition to the game.

Just like the PvP system, you will be able to challenge other players directly to a game using the interaction system. The group UI system will also be available so that any players can directly queue into a match of Tales of Tribute. For those who enjoy the card game, there is already a confirmed ranked system that will accompany the release of the High Isle chapter.
If challenging other players doesn’t sound appealing, then you will also have the option to pursue the storyline tied to Tales of Tribute. NPCs around Tamriel will be available to face off against and collect cards from. Completing the tutorial itself will provide players with four starter packs to get going. From there, exploring Tamriel and completing the quests tied to the card game will provide plenty of items for a powerful deck.
In terms of gameplay, Tales of Tribute will be a resource-building-based game in ESO. Strategy is the main idea behind the card game, and there will be multiple ways to approach the victory goal with any given deck. Of course, completing matches will reward players with items that are usable within ESO as well.
There is no gameplay to show off yet, but we’ll certainly learn more before Tales of Tribute drops in June later this year.
