Wild Hearts, the new monster hunting action RPG from developer Koei Tecmo and publisher EA, has just released a new trailer for its next update. The gameplay features a new Kemono, “Murakumo”, and spinning top Karakuri, which arrive on April 6th, 2023.

Wild Hearts is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch the full Lethal Blossoms trailer on the official Wild Hearts YouTube channel here:

Wild Hearts has only been out for around a month now, but it has been steeped in a lot of balancing and performance issues, particularly for PC users. This has created a divisive reputation, but the latest patch did address these concerns. Also, the art design and actual content have both received some decent praise.

Today’s trailer shows how the spinning top is an outright answer to the new Kemono’s abilities. But the top also builds power with each contact, which is a clever way to encourage players to consider strategy in the midst of battle. It remains to be seen if it will be unwieldy, though, since it will rely on smooth physics and mechanics to function properly.

Still, the spinning top also continues to distinguish Wild Hearts from Monster Hunter by emphasizing the freedom of its technological themes. It’s a little silly, but it remains crucial for Wild Hearts to define exclusive new mechanics that could only fit in its world.

Murakumo is yet another gorgeous monster design. Sakura blossoms are a popular, beautiful symbol, and they’re well translated here. Murakumo adds a unique, colorful brightness, which neatly contrasts with their powerful abilities. Although the monster looks like it could be a little unbalanced, at least the devs have given players a specific tool to counter them.
