Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the action RPG and dark fantasy from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo Games, will launch its very first DLC Battle of Zhongyuan on June 29th, 2023.
In addition to the titular Battle of Zhongyuan scenario, the DLC is also set to include “new stages, difficulty level, weapon type, enemies and more” according to an official blog post from Team Ninja. More information is expected “soon”. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Zhongyuan is a loaded setting for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, with a lot of history and a crucial role in Three Kingdoms stories. A lot of the joy that can be derived from Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is seeing how the devs fold familiar environments or characters into their dark fantasy world. In gaming, you’ll probably recognize the Three Kingdoms from Koei Tecmo’s own Dynasty Warriors series.
The first DLC for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty sounds like it has a decent amount of content, although the devs have left a lot to speculation for now. More stages and enemies are obligatory with a new setting, and hopefully it will be a little tidier than the base game.
The new difficulty level may actually be referring to a more lenient experience than a tougher challenge, since today’s blog post mentions the DLC will offer something for “experts and novices alike”. As a Soulslike, it would be strange to soften the challenge of the game. But following how mixed reviews have been, perhaps inviting a wider audience could be helpful to renew interest.
The devs have done a decent job of supporting the game, and smoothed out some of their crashing problems back in March. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty still has potential, so hopefully the new DLC will create a sturdy course.
