Microsoft has managed to stay afloat in recent years due to the success of Xbox Game Pass, allowing players to pay one small fee a month to unlock a whole library of games. Part of this was allowing players access to a whole month of the service as a trial for only a dollar, until now. Xbox has made a change to the recently re-introduced $1-month trial has been reduced to two weeks.

The change was noticed by multiple gaming journalists and shared by Wario64 on Twitter, linking to the Xbox Game Pass subscription page. If you click “Join Now,” you can see that there is a current trial listed for a dollar at each subscription tier, but it only lasts for 14 days. This is a 50 percent reduction in the amount of access at the same price, but time will tell if it affects the service.

This follows the news from two months ago in June when Microsoft increased the price of Xbox Game Pass in some countries. It’s clear the company is trying to maximize profit without causing a major impact on its service which has already proven successful. This may cause unsuspecting players to accidentally subscribe to Xbox Game Pass if the warning of the change isn’t announced by Microsoft in some capacity.

Xbox Game Pass is also allegedly going to become the core subscription service on consoles, replacing Gold, which has been the core service to allow players to play online for decades.
