Xbox has just revealed that the Xbox Series X will officially be getting cosmetic Console Wraps later this year. According to a new official blog, the console cosmetics will begin with a Starfield-themed design that will release on October 18th, 2023, in the US, Canada and Europe. Later on, the Arctic Camo and Mineral Camo console wraps will release on November 10th in the US and Canada.

The Starfield wrap is currently expected to cost around $49.99 USD, while the camo console wraps will both go for about $44.99 USD, and pre-orders for these inaugural three wraps are open today. Here’s a promotional image of the camo-themed wraps from today’s blog:

Console wraps will be a major step forward for Xbox, which is clearly hoping to compete with PlayStation. The recently announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2-themed PlayStation 5 console was an absolute juggernaut with pre-orders alone.

Those specialized PlayStation components have been sold separately, in addition to the bundles with all the cosmetics. That way, fans who want to express all of the different fandoms they belong to won’t have to invest in a brand-new console every single time.

Xbox has boasted more than its fair share of themed products. But those have mostly been reserved for the controllers, such as the bizarre Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pizza-scented controllers, or the conventional Stormcloud Vapor controller.

But even with the novelty of some virtual dashboard downloads, it just doesn’t make as much of a statement, and it doesn’t have synergy with your console. Any unique Xbox consoles have been limited to giveaways, even though many of them tie into blockbuster films or even upcoming games, like the Redfall-themed Xbox console.

Console cosmetics are proven to be convenient and profitable, but there’s no word on wraps for other Xbox consoles aside from the Series X. Marketing Starfield right away was a smart move, as the game is building massive hype with unique trailers like the anthology animation.
