Xbox has officially confirmed that an earlier post of Visions of Mana’s release on Game Pass was inaccurate. Over the weekend, an image circulated straight from the Xbox website that seemed like Visions of Mana would be available “day one” on Game Pass. That appeared to be a mistake.
In a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson clarified that the listing was an error: “We’re aware that Xbox.com included language that indicated Visions of Mana was coming to Xbox Game Pass and can confirm this was an error.” The spokesperson further emphasized that while Xbox constantly seeks to expand its Game Pass library, Visions of Mana is not currently planned for inclusion.
It’s not hard to see why people would be mistaken. The “day one” language is almost exclusively for Game Pass ads. It almost feels like it’s purposefully misleading because who would put “available day one” for regular releases? It may be because Square Enix tends to favor PlayStation timed and permanent exclusivity over releasing games on Xbox on day one.
This news is a slight disappointment to those hoping to play the upcoming action-RPG through the subscription service. Visions of Mana, set for release this summer on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation, marks the first mainline entry in the Mana series in over 15 years. Its surprise reveal at the recent Xbox Developer Direct and the erroneous Game Pass listing had fueled speculation about a broader shift in Square Enix’s approach to Xbox releases.
While Visions of Mana won’t be joining Game Pass at launch, Xbox gamers can still look forward to playing the game when it releases this summer. This isn’t much of a consolation, but hopefully, Xbox doesn’t add something like that to its website again. Something as misleading as this should have been caught much sooner.
