Xbox has just revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Xbox Game Pass Core service, which will replace Xbox Live Gold. The new Xbox Game Pass Core is slated to roll out on September 14th, 2023. It will cost $9.99 USD a month, or $59.99 USD for a full year.

Game Pass Core will remove Games with Gold on September 1st, 2023. Core will replace it with “more than 25” titles from the Game Pass catalog. You can watch today’s Xbox Game Pass Core trailer on the Xbox YouTube channel:

Some of the titles that will be available at launch were revealed in an official blog posted today. Just a few of the highlights include Among Us, Fallout 4, Gears 5, Human Fall Flat, and Halo 5: Guardians. New titles will be added 2 to 3 times a year, and more launch titles will be announced soon.

Anyone subscribed to Xbox Live Gold will automatically become Game Pass Core members at launch, with no pricing changes. Games with Gold titles that you’ve received can still be accessed with Core or Ultimate.

As today’s trailer admits, Xbox Game Pass Core is predominantly an update in name only. Any frustration that you might have had with Gold will probably remain equally unchanged. The multiplayer tax hasn’t eased up, so Nintendo continues to provide the most affordable online access and content.

The addition of a Game Pass catalog sampler might be encouraging for some fans, though. There’s a decent variety of titles from the catalog, including some classics like Inside. Ultimately, Core isn’t very impressive, or even especially different, so hopefully the catalog selections will grow to justify all of this.
