Xbox Game pass subscribers just got their first look at the upcoming releases scheduled for next week, beginning July 11th, 2022. Fans can expect to see 17 more games, including a couple that will be available on launch day.
Here’s the announcement from Xbox Wire, the console’s official news feed:
Most of the additions to the service will be indie games, providing another opportunity for smaller studios to get some well-deserved attention.
Upcoming games and details
Many of next week’s games focus on retro homage, likely because it’s less expensive to build, and it’s a beloved era of gaming anyway.
Spidersaurs, Superola Champion Edition, and Running On Magic are all platformers with fun nostalgia for some classic mechanics.
Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 features a Megaman-style side-scrolling adventure. 80’s Overdrive says it all in the name, a pixelated 2D throwback to the first racing games like Out Run. Meanwhile, Mothmen 1966 and Gum+ are clearly old school PC games, which also fits the personality of their stories.
Still, there’s plenty of modern indies too, and the biggest title next week will probably be PowerWash Simulator. Available on launch day, the game is intended to feel relaxing, as players simply clean up a mess.
The Tale of Bistun, Time on Frog Island, and DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace will offer new school adventure. DC isn’t the only film tie-in, since players can also check out Krut The Mythic Wings, an action platformer based on the animated 2018 Thai film.
Shred! Remastered features updated biking action, The Musynx is a simple but refreshing rhythm game, and Rayland is definitely a modern type of puzzle game.
Escape Academy and DreadOut 2 can offer you some horror if you’ve just finished up The Quarry like everyone else. Escape Academy even features puzzles that were designed by actual escape room creators.
