Xbox has just officially revealed their brand-new Stormcloud Vapor special edition controller, which features navy blue swirls inspired by stormy skies. Today’s official blog post adds that the signature swirls will bring “a unique design to each controller”, so that each fan who invests will get their own pattern.

Pre-orders for the Stormcloud Vapor controller are available today in select Xbox markets worldwide. It’s expected to cost $69.99 USD. The Microsoft product page for the controller lists a release date for next week on August 7th, 2023, at 9 PM.

Xbox has added that connecting the Stormcloud Vapor controller to your console will unlock a new and exclusive dynamic background, which shares the same blue swirls for its theme. Here’s an image from a teaser featuring the background in today’s blog post:

Most recently, Xbox revealed a strange Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed controller that has a pizza scent diffuser. It’s a little clunky and odd, but it was only part of a giveaway, and timely for the new film coming out this week.

Today’s Stormcloud Vapor controller is far more traditional, and readily available. The exclusive background is a nice touch. Although many players are likely to use their own custom images for the background, a dynamic one is still interesting, and probably easier to navigate.

The storming swirls have attitude, and it wouldn’t be surprising if dynamic backgrounds became a central part of special edition controllers in the future.

The fact that each controller will have its own pattern is actually a neat selling point. It’s reminiscent of the Earth Day controller, which was made of reclaimed materials and resulted in totally unique designs. Stormcloud’s navy swirls may not be easily distinguishable, but at least fans will know they have a one-of-a-kind controller.
