The next two weeks are going to be big for Xbox, as its first-party launch of Starfield is expected to be the biggest launch for the console in a decade. It will launch on Xbox Game Pass at the same time as it releases to the public out of Early Access on the evening of Sept. 5. This is a big draw for the platform, so it seems like Microsoft has removed the two-week trial for the service ahead of Starfield’s launch.
This was noticed by gaming content creator and journalist Wario64 on Twitter, who showed an image side-by-side of the previous slides with the trial offer and the current ones.
The removal is likely temporary until after Starfield launches or beyond, as this isn’t the first time that Microsoft has changed the trial. Earlier this month, the developer reduced the duration of the Xbox Game Pass trial from four to two weeks.
While not confirmed, the timing of the release of the new IP from Bethesda in less than two weeks lines up pretty nicely with this decision. When Starfield launches and players realize they can play it for much less than the purchase price, it’s likely to be great for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. By removing the $1 subscription, the cheapest option is $9.99, plus tax, on PC.
It’s unclear if Microsoft will be willing to change the price back once we get further out from Starfield‘s launch, but that will largely depend on the reception to the game.
