A Reddit user known as Daddy-Vegas has been banned for one year from using online features on Xbox. This comes because of unintentionally uploading gameplay footage containing “naked camp time fun” from Baldur’s Gate 3. According to the user, Xbox automatically uploads all gameplay videos, which was not their intention when they began recording gameplay.
Baldur’s Gate 3 features optional nudity and explicit content, which players can toggle on or off in the game’s settings. Despite U/Daddy-Vegas having disabled these settings, certain scenes in the game still triggered the Xbox’s automatic recording system, capturing nudity and uploading the footage to Microsoft’s servers. (Thanks Insider-Gaming.)
While U/Daddy-Vegas claims to have had no intention of sharing the explicit content publicly, the automatic upload violated Xbox’s terms of service regarding user-generated content. This resulted in three separate “infractions” on U/Daddy-Vegas’ account, ultimately leading to a one-year ban from online features.
There are multiple articles that say why and how this happened, but the user has stated that his initial “funtime” claim is more for spoiler territory. To quote, “It wasn’t a sex scene. It was the scene where Shadowheart tries to kill Lazel in her sleep … they were just naked when it happened.” This sounds like the kid who was getting rid of viruses on his PC, but his pants slipped off right when his mom came in.
The incident has sparked discussion within the gaming community about the potential pitfalls of automatic recording systems and the rigidity of platform enforcement policies. Even after an appeal, U/Daddy-Vegas claimed Xbox responded, “After reviewing your inquiry, we have found the enforcement to be warranted.”
Some argue that the accidental nature of Daddy-Vegas’ infraction warrants a less severe punishment. There is also an argument that the game has those scenes, so they should be viewable, but every player can choose not to view them. If it is public, users can stumble upon the content, which probably got the user reported.
