To create a balanced team composition in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, it is important to know what Class each character belongs to. Specifically, Classes are divided into three categories – Attackers, Defenders, and Healers. Attackers, otherwise known as DPS characters, deal the majority of damages to enemies during combat. Defenders are built with equipment that allows them to take more damage and draw out enemy aggro. Meanwhile, Healers are support Classes that have the ability to heal their allies and perform buffs or Attack Up. Each Class includes a set of different roles. Upon completing the Standard Quest: The Hillside Hulk during Chapter 2, you will have the ability to change the Class of a hero. The following is a list of all the roles that are available for each Class:

Attackers

  • Swordfighter
  • Ogre
  • Flash Fencer
  • Full Metal Jaguar
  • Stalker
  • Incursor
  • Yumsmith
  • Soulhacker
  • Martial Artist
  • Seraph
  • Machine Assassin
  • Sharpshooter

Defenders

  • Zephyr
  • Heavy Guard
  • Guardian Commander
  • Lone Exile
  • Lost Vanguard

Healers

  • Medic Gunner
  • Tactician
  • War Medic
  • Thaumaturge
  • Strategos
  • Signifer
  • Troubador

Every playable character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 possesses a Talent Art or a unique ability that can be activated by pressing the A button. However, in order to activate this ability, the Talent Gauge must first be filled to a certain level, which varies depending on the Class. When it comes to Attackers, their Talent Gauge may be boosted by striking critical hits on their enemies. It is possible for Defenders to fill up their Talent Gauge by drawing aggro and engaging in defensive actions such as blocking and dodging. Meanwhile, Healers may increase their Talent Gauge by making use of buffs and debuffs.
